I’m Marcial Sommer, a filmmaker and photographer from Thun, Switzerland. With Sommer Productions I make documentary and outdoor-sport films, as well as commercial, event and portrait work.
My passion is the sports I love doing in the Bernese Oberland: as a paraglider pilot, climber and highliner I film and photograph them up close. I keep pace with the athletes, read the terrain and am in the right place at the right time.
Photography grabbed me in 2012 like nothing before. I’ve worked full-time as a freelancer since 2018, and from 2019 to 2021 I ran a production company with a friend. My own projects usually grow out of whatever excites me at the time: that’s how two documentaries came about, one on permaculture in Hawai‘i and one on highlining. So I was all the more delighted when my short film “Connecting Tre Cime” won Best Film at the Boulder Highline Film Festival in 2024.
